Massage comes from the Arabic word ‘mass’ which means to press softly. It is believed that the Chinese, Hindus and ancient Egyptians had a system of massage over 5000 years ago.
Massage is the practice of giving and receiving touch, of communicating warmth, comfort, pleasure and trust through the hands. It invites the body to let go of tension and encourages deep relaxation.
There are many benefits to massage; it relieves muscular tightness and stiffness, increases blood circulation, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, promotes rapid removal of toxins, deepens breathing and reduces stress and anxiety.
Receiving a massage allows us to take time out for ourselves, to slow down and breathe. Massage helps us to become more aware of the connection between our minds and our bodies, to relax, to reconnect and feel more whole. When we relax we give our amazing bodies the opportunity to heal. When we are still, we gain ‘insight’ into ourselves and a better understanding of the world around us.
I offer an oil based holistic massage which incorporates acupressure, stretching and Thai techniques where appropriate.
